Stanwell Fields Curriculum Intent
Throughout the school, our work is based on principles which are shared by all staff. It is our belief that we should:
-
develop and value the whole child and enable them to flourish as individuals.
-
give children the opportunity to learn about the wider world and their place within it.
-
ensure children have the knowledge and skills needed to achieve during the next stage of their education and in the future.
-
give children the opportunity to enjoy learning, flourish and achieve in a peaceful, supportive environment of Christian love and care and build respectful relationships.

Physical Education: Purpose of Study
A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.
Physical Education: Aims
The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:
- develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
- are physically active for sustained periods of time
- engage in competitive sports and activities
- lead healthy, active lives.
We follow the National Curriculum for PE. The programmes of study for key stage one and two can be found below:
Physical Education at Stanwell Fields
At Stanwell Fields we have adopted and adapted the Rising Stars Champions scheme of work. Champions is a Sports, Fitness and Health programme for Years 1 to 6. It is a holistic approach to teaching of PE, which improves fitness, develops skills and deepens knowledge of health and wellbeing.
At Stanwell Fields we are committed to ensuring that all children receive high quality, well-planned PE lessons and opportunities. Each week children will receive two lessons of PE. Over the year each child will participate in games, athletics, dance and gymnastics lessons alongside fitness and sports skills development.
